EDINBURGH CASTLE  1947

RETURN TO THE HOMEPAGE                                                                                                                                                                                                                              THE OCEAN LINERS

Welcome to our RMS Edinburgh Castle website celebrating this stylish and beautiful mailship. She was built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast for Union-Castle Line. She was the sister ship of Pretoria Castle and replaced the Warwick Castle that was lost in the Second World War. They were built to meet the terms of the mail contract signed in 1945. At the time they were the largest ships in the fleet and the Edinburgh Castle continued in loyal service until 1976 when she was retired by Union-Castle Line. She was sold for scrap and sailed to Kaoshiung in Taiwan for dismantling, a sad end for a much loved and stylish ship.

This website aims to record the history of this fine British ocean liner and act as a virtual home to honour and commemorate this fine ship. We hope you enjoy this website and when you leave we hope you will visit again soon.
