RETURN TO THE
HOMEPAGE
THE OCEAN LINERS |
|||
Welcome to our website paying tribute to this magnificent Dutch ocean liner – the Oranje, which was built in 1938 for Nederland Line’s colonial mailship service from Amsterdam to the Dutch East Indies. In 1964 she was sold to Flotta Lauro Lines and was
substantially rebuilt to become the sleek, modern Angelina Lauro. She
thus became a popular cruise ship in the Caribbean. But however in 1979
tragedy struck when a fire broke out on board and she sank. A tragic
end to a fine ship. This website aims to record the history of this Dutch colonial mailship and act as a virtual home to honour and commemorate her. |
